Delfast Top 3.0i: An eBike With Extended Range

Updated: Aug 29, 2023

Fight eBike Range Anxiety With This Bike!

It wasn’t long ago that I bought an electric bike because it could fold and was “portable.” I didn’t put much thought into its range because I had no intention of going very far at the time. It is surprising to see how much my line of thinking has changed since owning one of these bikes. I rarely fold my current one and throw it into my car. More importantly, I can see the worth of a bike with a longer range. This is where the Delfast Top 3.0i comes in.

First and Foremost, I wanted a little more information on Delfast, and I was quickly surprised to find they were a Ukrainian company. Their original intent was to provide Kyiv with a reliable courier service allowing its delivery riders to maneuver swiftly through traffic over long distances. Finding inferior bike offerings at the time led them to develop their bikes, which became the fastest on the market with the longest range. The exciting part of this story is that customers and onlookers noticed the bikes Delfast had created and expressed the desire to buy them.

As recent as 2017, Delfast closed up its courier operation and began to focus solely on producing these industry-leading electric bikes. They had a successful venture on Kickstarter, and the rest is history. In Delfast’s own words:

Our mission at Delfast is to transform the future of transportation, combating climate change by delivering crossover eBikes designed for city and off-road use. We are committed to producing EVs with no zero air emissions and a carbon neutral impact on the environment

This brings us to the latest offering from Delfast called the Top 3.0i. In this review, we’ll take an in-depth look at this bike to see if it’s worth the price tag. We’ll examine the build quality, battery life, range, features, and more.

Build Quality The first thing you’ll notice about the Delfast Top 3.0i is that it’s a well-built machine. Every component feels solid and sturdy, from the frame to the tires. This electric bike can take a beating and keep on going. In many ways, it looks and rides more like a motorcycle. One of the nicest upgrades is the carbon-reinforced belt, rather than a typical chain.

Battery One of the most impressive things about the Delfast Top 3.0i is its battery life. This bike has a powerful 72V 48Ah Li-ion battery with a unique battery management system (BMS). It also has impressive torque reaching 182nm. That’s incredible for an electric bike. You could easily use this as your primary mode of transportation without worrying about running out of juice halfway to your destination. The typical recharge time is roughly 6 hours.

Range The Delfast Top 3.0i has a max range of 200 miles before needing to be recharged. This is more than enough for most people’s daily needs. Even if you must commute long distances for work or school, this electric bike will get you there without any problems. You could easily do several short commutes without having to top off the battery.

Features The Delfast Top 3 .0i comes loaded with features that make riding it a joy. First and foremost, it has a 750W motor that provides plenty of power when needed but won’t drain the battery too quickly when you don’t. It comes to you in street legal mode as a class 2 bike. This means it will hit 20mph in throttle-only mode. This is perfect for those who want to ride fast but still want their electric bike to last long between charges. For those more adventurous and less worried about range, there is an unlimited mode taking this bike’s speed up to the maximum 50mph.

Additionally, the Delfast Top 3 .0i comes with LED headlights and taillights for riding at night or in low-light conditions, as well as turn signals so that drivers will know what you’re planning to do next. It also has a spacious cargo rack on the back for carrying groceries or other items. Finally, it has several different riding modes to customize your experience based on how you’re feeling or what you’re trying to accomplish.

The battery management system (BMS) mentioned earlier is one of the latest upgrades to this bike. Working with the bike application, you can monitor the bike's power, lock/unlock the bike, arm/disarm the alarm, use the “Find My Bike” function with GPS enabled, and monitor the bike's speed. This brings new meaning to an intelligent bike!

Conclusion: The Delfast Top 3 .0i is an excellent electric bike with many features. It’s well-built, has great battery life, plenty of range, and comes with things you never knew you needed. If you’re looking for an electric bike that can do it all, this is the one for you, but at what cost? You can expect a starting price of $6999, not including some of the various upgrades such as a possible saddle seat:

Or phone dock:

A $7000 bike is a bit steep, but if you are looking for a long-lasting, capable bike, the Delfast should check all the boxes. Added Note: I will warn you ahead of time; it is not light exceeding 150 lbs.
