Here is an exciting mode of transportation that piqued my curiosity. If you’re looking for a way to explore nature while still having all the modern comforts of home, then the Folkloric Explorer eBoat is the perfect option. This state-of-the-art electric boat was designed by Marcel Lindsay Noë, the director of SPES (Société pour la Promotion des Entreprises Spécialisées), in response to the oil tanker Wakashio running aground on a coral reef off the coast of Mauritius back in 2020. Amongst the endless amount of oil that was spilled into the sea, the build and design of the Folkloric Explorer were inspired. It can reportedly be completely solar-charged and offers an eco-friendly and stylish way to explore nature. Let’s take a look at what makes this one-of-a-kind boat so unique!

Power Source Options: As mentioned, this electric boat can be powered using solar energy. It also has an onboard battery that can be charged using any conventional electricity source, such as a power outlet or generator. Additionally, it can run for up to 8 hours or 15.5 miles on battery power alone (You can expect a top speed of 9mph (15km/h).

This eBoat also has a vertical axis wind turbine for powering the navigation, lighting, and a six-speaker sound system. Worst case scenario, the pontoon can use a kite to help convey it using the power of the wind. With several backup power sources, you won’t have to worry about running out of juice during your adventures!

Modern Amenities: The Folkloric Explorer offers an eco-friendly way to travel and comes with all the modern amenities one would expect from a vessel this size. In addition to an onboard composting toilet, there is talk of including a net across the bow for skimming plastic trash off the water’s surface. Not only is this a zero-emission vessel, but it is also a plastic recovery means of transportation. The Explorer goes one step further by also including an atmospheric water generator not unlike the WaterGen described here:

It features two LCD screens allowing you to monitor engine performance and navigation data while underway easily. Up to 35 passengers can fit comfortably aboard the Explorer with all their gear!

Safety Features: Finally, the Folkloric Explorer has several safety features, such as automatic bilge pumps that keep water out of the hull if it begins taking on water; LED navigation lights; and a fire suppression system that keeps flames at bay during times of emergency. This ensures peace of mind for those seeking maximum protection when venturing into unknown waters.

It has an aluminum superstructure set atop two flat-bottomed hulls perfect for shallow water excursions.

With its range of power sources and modern amenities — with safety features like automatic bilge pumps and fire suppression systems — this state-of-the-art electric boat is perfect for those looking for an unforgettable journey into nature. If you are ever off Madagascar's coast, take part in a discovery tour on the Folkloric Explorer.
